While we were down in greater Chicago-land for various other visits and errands, we took an afternoon out to visit the lovely Shedd Aquarium. The Shedd Aquarium is not quite as large as the National Aquarium (which I'm more used to), but it has some stunning art deco decor and a really neat Amazon river exhibit. It also has both Pacific White Sided Dolphins and Beluga Whales. I was very impressed with the marine mammal area. The tanks were very large and the areas around them were quite beautifully decorated.
On the whole I really enjoyed my trip to the Shedd and will probably be visiting again in the future. I also got to see an incredible community tank of tetras that ultimately prompted me to chose red phantom tetras for my own tank and reconsider cardinal tetras as a possible alternative to neons.
