Long Car Trips

I've survived the 13.5 hour car trip to my parents' home in Maryland.

Going around Chicago wasn't so bad this time. All the open road tolling seems to have convinced a lot of people to get I-Passes. Also, the folks in charge of selling I-Passes on the tollway are sleazy as all get out. If you want to buy one you need to magically know which rest stops have someone there selling them on which day. The folks at the Belvedere Oasis told me that the iPass folks are usually there on Tuesdays and they randomly show up on other days every once in a while. I'm not sure how I would figure that out as a commuter, but whatever.

When I jogged down 79 to 68 to avoid the Pennsylvania turnpike, I discovered that a disturbing number of the signs advertising gasoline for sale at a particular stop in the mountains are lies. Who the hell closes a gas station at 8:45pm?

Also, I had forgotten how much better West Virginia and Maryland take care of their roads than everyone else between WI and MD.

Christmas Time and Costumes

I think I've finished all my Christmas shopping. Yesterday I discovered a receipt for a present that I bought in August and forgot about. I wonder where it is. I have this vague feeling that I might have sent it for a birthday or something. Curse my lousy memory and cluttered room!

On the up side, I've have been cleaning my house lately. I got most of the weird stuff out of the living/dining room (excluding a pile of fabric) and I'm starting to make a dent on my bedroom. Hopefully I'll have most of it cleaned up before Christmas.

I've also been planning my Intercon G costumes. I still don't know what I'm being cast as in any of my games, but at least I've got a head start on the Regency era gown I'm going to have to make. I probably would have been lazy and used the one I made for the Curse of Whately's Monster, but it doesn't fit me anymore. Bleh. This time around I'm going to make a proper Regency corset (using a pattern from Past Patterns which I may have to size larger) and do the back closure with buttons like I should have the first time. I'm not sure what posessed me to think lacing would be okay.

I still have to finish the bottom of my skirt from the Monte Carlo game before I pack it away. In honor of my character I think I'll add a secret pocket or two to the hem facing.

I have a near infinite ability to misspell things

I've been doing a lot of work on my website lately and I'm beginning to think that there is no end to the words that I can misspell. I check and recheck everything before I put it online and I'm sure I've still missed some.

On the up side, I've added a bunch of new stuff to the sewing and gaming sections as well as adding some pictures of our 2005 Halloween party. I'm almost with a major update for the gaming/LARP section and have three or four more galleries of pictures to add. I'm a little disturbed at how much my SR notes are growing. (If I was a better writer I might have a novel by the time they're done.)

On an unrelated note, I'd like to note (for the record) that curly hair is very graceful about un-even, hand trimmed ends.
