Long Car Trips
I've survived the 13.5 hour car trip to my parents' home in Maryland.
Going around Chicago wasn't so bad this time. All the open road tolling seems to have convinced a lot of people to get I-Passes. Also, the folks in charge of selling I-Passes on the tollway are sleazy as all get out. If you want to buy one you need to magically know which rest stops have someone there selling them on which day. The folks at the Belvedere Oasis told me that the iPass folks are usually there on Tuesdays and they randomly show up on other days every once in a while. I'm not sure how I would figure that out as a commuter, but whatever.
When I jogged down 79 to 68 to avoid the Pennsylvania turnpike, I discovered that a disturbing number of the signs advertising gasoline for sale at a particular stop in the mountains are lies. Who the hell closes a gas station at 8:45pm?
Also, I had forgotten how much better West Virginia and Maryland take care of their roads than everyone else between WI and MD.
